Everyone meet 'Blake' Lively, our first calf of Summer CREAM! Born Tuesday evening, Lively was breeched, born with contracted tendons, not breathing, and had no eye reflex, let alone any reflex. Immediately, Ash and a couple others stepped in, shaking Lively awake, pumping air into her lungs. Without any interest in stopping resuscitation techniques, around 6 minutes passed without any solid signs of life. Momma Lenora continuously licked her baby clean and after what felt like a lifetime, Lively was living!
Since then, Lively has struggled eating on her own, has an increased heart rate, cannot lift herself up, and a hernia, as pointed out by Dr. Wadsworth. I have gone in her pen to spend time stretching and massaging her legs. Once Lively became comfortable laying upright with her front legs extended, I worked with her several times to help her stand and hold her own weight.
Finally yesterday, 5/26, Lively held herself up for about 10 minutes and took a couple mini steps! Amazing progress! Tremendously gratifying! Lively truly wanted to be on her feet and just needed some loving and assistance. Lively has really persevered so far with the help of all our love.
